Hi, my name is Ivy Shaw and I’ve been an English teacher for 4 years, both online and in-person. I’m passionate about helping students improve their language skills by making lessons engaging and practical. Whether it’s through reading, writing, speaking, or listening, I focus on real-world applications of English that my students can use in their everyday lives. I believe in creating a supportive learning environment where everyone feels comfortable to ask questions and make mistakes. I pride myself on providing clear feedback and adapting my teaching methods to meet the individual needs of each student.
I am a patient and supportive English teacher who focuses on providing consistent feedback to help my students improve. I emphasize the practical use of language, ensuring that my lessons are not only informative but also relevant to real-life situations. I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of each student, making sure everyone feels comfortable and confident in their learning journey. By breaking down complex concepts into simple steps, I aim to make learning enjoyable and effective, fostering an environment where students can grow at their own pace.
- Lessons are carefully planned based on each student’s goals and adjusted as they make progress.
- After every class, I give feedback to help them improve.
- I always try to explain difficult ideas in simple steps and focus on using language in practical, real-life situations.
- Correcting students in a way that teaches, not discourages.
hobby:In my free time, I enjoy reading books and learning languages like Spanish and Italian to broaden my understanding. Traveling and exploring different cultures also inspire me. Painting allows me to relax and stay creative, while playing volleyball keeps me active and reminds me of the importance of teamwork—something I bring into my teaching as well.
Like Books:I grew up on Harry Potter and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but later fell in love with classics like Kafka’s Metamorphosis and Dostoevsky’s The Double.
Like sports:In high school, I was a cheerleader and gymnast, and in university, I played volleyball, which I still enjoy with my friends to this day. I also love jogging and ice skating whenever I get the chance.

Okay, I'll ask him to read the pronunciation of these words more as per the homework you assigned, and try to write simple sentences, so as to gradually improve his writing skills. Thank you for your patient instruction. Have a nice weekend! See you in the next class!

Hello, Ivy. Thank you very much. I've received the homework you sent. I'll find time for him to do it. He writes words rather slowly. Overall, he has made great progress after learning these two books. I'm very glad to study with you! Looking forward to seeing you in the next class!

外教:ivyshaw 回复:
Hi! Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm really glad to hear that he's made great progress! Writing slowly is completely normal at this stage—it's better to focus on accuracy and building confidence first. With time and practice, his speed will naturally improve. I'm looking forward to our next class and continuing to work with him. See you soon! :)

外教:ivyshaw 回复:
Happy New Year to you too! I wish you all the best in the coming year! I'm very sorry that the material hasn't been sent to you yet, but I always send homework (writing practice) before finishing the class comments. I'll check with the admins, and I apologize again for the delay in receiving the practice material. :)

Thank you for your encouragement. It gives him more motivation to study. I printed out the courseware you sent last time for him to work on after class. I think this arrangement is great. Could you assign him some practice assignments after class in the future? I'd like him to practice speaking in combination with writing. If it's possible, I would really appreciate your help. Thank you very much!

外教:ivyshaw 回复:
Of course, I can assign him practice assignments after class. When working on writing, it's crucial to start with individual words to build a strong vocabulary foundation. Is he comfortable with writing simple words? Once he's confident with words, we can move on to forming simple sentences, like we practiced with prepositions (e.g., "The cat is under the table" or "The bat is on the desk"). Starting with words and then progressing to sentences will help him improve his writing and understanding of sentence structure gradually. :)
